Lauren, I think you have captured a disturbing element in the willingness of Warren and her supporters to publicly humiliate Bernie. That exists independently from what I am about to write. Bernie allowed personal disappointment to color his initial reaction which was to call the Warren staffers who leaked the story to Politico and CNN “liars.” That is not true. They are clearly reporting truthfully what Warren told them. Malicious. But not lying. Why is this important? Because Warren “knows” what she heard and cannot abide by what she sees as Bernie’s denial. The way to handle it was to say that he is disappointed that a private conversation was leaked and wished that Liz had sought clarifications of what he said before she repeated it to staff and especially before she went public with her refutation of Bernie’s denial. All that more important to stop fetishizing the office of POTUS, and begin to reform our system so that politics not personality drive such decisive results.
